| Two Films Commemorate ASA Centennial |
|
100 Years of Progress: Presidential Reflections
This 20-minute film will be presented at the beginning of the opening
plenary sesson on Friday, August 12, at 7:00 pm. The film begins with a
brief overview of the founding of the American Sociological Society
(ASA's pre-1959 name, acknowledging the organizations inclusion of
applied, action-oriented social reformers as well as
pure-theoretical-academic scholars. The documentary continues with a
review of each of the successive presidents of the Society.
Lester F. Ward: A Life's Journey
This 110-minute film will premiere on Saturday, August 13, at 7:30
pm. The film describes in the life and ideas of Lester F. Ward --
a man regarded by many as the founder of American Sociology and also
the first president of the American Sociology Society.
